There is still reasonable snow cover in the Lake Placid area so barring a totally unforeseen swing in the weather, we’re confident that the ski-o events at the Empire State Games next weekend will go ahead as scheduled.  Following the rainstorm earlier this week, about 1” of snow fell as the temperature dropped so most of the ice is covered.  However at van Hoevenburg there are some open, flat and windblown areas that are quite icy and for now must be avoided.  There is some snow predicted for the coming week, but we won’t finalize the courses til we see how things look closer to race day.  If there are still icy areas we will designate them on the maps as out of bounds and ensure there are safe routes to all controls.  For this reason we can’t specify specific course lengths at this time.  However overall skiing conditions are good and fast, so look forward to some excellent racing and please check back for updates next week!
