From Eric Hamilton, 3/16:

I set out controls today for the NYSSRA Championships Sunday at Lapland Lake. Conditions were beautiful. The crews were able to keep ahead of the 20 inches of snow and all trails are excellently groomed. The snow is still quite cold making skiing slow. I found it refreshing to ski on some real snow, a reward for putting up with the icy conditions of the last two months. Tunturi and two of the upper Karhu loops are not navigable because a irreparable wash out or major downed trees.

I had “arm chair” designed a Red course with a straight line distance of between 7 and 8 k. That course and the others will have to be reworked from what I experienced in the field. Only the shortest of bushwhacks will work due to the depth of snow in the woods. Many of the snowshoe trails have been tracked in, but some are not on the map.

…and the map! I need to make several revisions that went un-noticed last December.

Expect a great championship event on excellent trails. Register anytime between 11 AM and 1 PM. The cut off of registration is somewhat flexible …if we know you are coming.
