As part of Winterfest at Mendon Ponds Park, ROC will sponsor an orienteering event, starting at Hopkins Point Lodge (enter the park via the northern entrance; middle one is closed.) The course may be done on skis, snowshoes, or on foot. At present there is skiable snow, though not very deep. Below freezing temperatures are forecast until Saturday, when it warms up a little. Because of the snow depth and the fact that some controls are off trails, rock skis are recommended. Those not on skis are asked (implored!) to stay off any ski tracks when possible. Because of other events, we have to stay west of the road. Competitors will have the choice of going around one or both ponds (or not) in a score-o format: get as many controls as possible, in any order, within 90 minutes (with drastic penalties for overtime). There will also be a regular white beginner course. Starts will be from 11:30 to 2:00. If on skis, you will need a way to carry the map. A simple solution is a ziplock bag  hung on a string. If you plan to attend, please preregister at the ROC web site.  If you have already preregistered for a certain color course, you will be registered for the score-o.

You can find ski conditions at the Rochester Cross Country Ski Foundation (RXCSF) web site. To access you need to register. It is not necessary to join, but anyone who likes to ski on groomed trails in the area SHOULD join! They have revolutionized cross country skiing in Rochester.
