Empire State Games Ski-O Course Notes – updated Jan. 31/15

Day 1-Dewey Mountain (located 1 mile west of Saranac Lake on Rte. 3) Welcome to the brand new Dewey Mt. Cross Country Lodge! While you’re in town take some time to enjoy events at the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival —http://www.saranaclakewintercarnival.com/

Please arrive by 10 am First start for on-site registrants – 10:30 am First start for pre-registered competitors – 11 am

Courses: Long (Red): approx. 10 km Middle (Green): approx. 6 km Short (Orange): approx. 4 km

1 – there will be electronic punch timing courtesy of Phil Hawkes-Teeter and Empire Orienteering Club; 2 – the long and middle courses will have map exchanges; 3 – conditions are good to fair but best skis are not recommended at this time; 4 – Dewey’s one way trails will not be observed for the race. This means that you can go any way you want but you must yield to recreational skiers on the trails. Always ski in control; 5 –The start order for pre-registered competitors will be determined on Friday; on-site registrants will start before pre-registered racers.
Day Two: Mt Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex (locatedthree miles east of Lake Placid Village on Rt 73)

Please check in by 10 AM at the timing building (across the field from the cross country lodge). First start for on-site registrants – 10:30 am First startfor pre-registered competitors – 11 am. Start order will be the reverse of the first day.

Courses: Long Advanced (Blue): approx. 15 km Long (Red):approx.11 km Middle (Green): approx. 9 km Short (Orange): approx. 6km

1 – Timing will be electronic and courtesy of Phil Hawkes-Teeter and Empire State Orienteering Club; 2 – conditions are excellent – bring your best skis! 3 – one-way trails: for this race you may ignore all one-way signs on the trails; however you MUST observe the one-way trails marked on your map in pink arrows. These have been designated for safety reasons. Route choices have been designed to avoid going against the flow. You MUST yield to recreational skiers coming in the opposite direction, especially on the hills.
