January 15 Ski-O at Van Hoevenberg Cancelled
The ski-o event scheduled for this Saturday, Jan. 15 at Mt. van Hoevenberg has been cancelled due to poor conditions. Great turnout at Garnet Hill for the New Year’s Day Score-O! Results show that classic skiers may have had a slight advantage in the mild conditions & new snow. Online Ski-O Registration for 2020 ESG’s now Open!
Ski-O participants can now register online for this year’s Empire State Games at https://www.empirestatewintergames.com/sports/ski-orienteering. Saturday’s event will be at Dewey Mt. in Saranac Lake while Sunday’s will be at Paul Smith’s VIC. Race times and further information to be posted shortly!
Further Update on Garnet Hill Ski-O
From Aims Coney: “The current weather is wind-driven sleet and freezing rain. I could skate ski on the paved road. This has to be helping the base at Garnet Hill. Snow begins Tuesday and it’s likely to be snowing during our event New Year’s Day. Control hanging will be Tuesday. I will post another update (read more)
Dec. 29 van Ho Ski-O Cancelled
Although the groomers at van Ho have done miracles with what they have to work with, the snow covering is very thin & icy, and there is limited terrain open. With plus freezing temperatures and rain in the forecast for the next 2 days, conditions will be deteriorating further so we’ve made the decision to (read more)
Dec. 29 Ski-O Update
We cannot yet confirm that the Dec. 29 ski-o scheduled for Mt. van Hoevenberg will be held. Snow covering is very thin and with mild temperatures plus rain in the forecast we’ll have to wait and see how the trails hold up. We’ll post a decision by Thursday evening so stay tuned.
